There is not a lot to say about today. The seas are still 6 to 8 feet and coming right on
our port beam. We have had showers, squalls and cloudy sunshine. The temperature has
dropped so that at times I have worn a light rain jacket. The wind is 20 to 28 knots out
of the east and our SOG, speed over ground, is 7 to 8 knots with port engine at 1800 RPM
and reefed Genoa on a port tack. We will be in Vavau tomorrow morning, Tuesday, about 9:30
AM; we will miss Monday except for the time it takes us to anchor.
We have not seen any whales yet. One small one came up to the stern of the Bella Donna
before we arrived. And a large whale jumped several times near Bella Donna in Tongan
waters. The fishing here is terrific thus the tuna factories in Pago Pago. The sea is too
rough to fish, but we do pass a patch of ocean about 200 yards in diameter that is
"boiling" with a large school of large tuna feeding on a large school of smaller fish. I
momentarily wish I had put at least one tuna line out.
