We are at the dock in San Francisco, actually Sausalito. We did pass under the Golden Gate Bridge (GGB) at 4 PM, just as we predicted. The day is sunny and warm and the Bay is full of sailboats. The ocean outside the GGB is cold, windy and churning with 5 foot swells. San Francisco Bay within is flat, warm and a brisk wind is filling sails and driving sailboats seemingly angling in all directions. We make a left turn and head for our dock space near the north end of Sausalito; our reservation is not until tomorrow and we are just hoping there is space for us. After a couple of attempts to find the deep channel to our dock we succeed but find a small sailboat on our dock right in the middle of our space which could be more than big enough for us. We ask a couple of the many live aboard people to help us by moving the little boat down the dock allowing us to parallel park.
With the lines secure and the engines turned off, it is the first time in 3 days and 3 hours that it is quiet. We all sit down and drink in the mellow San Francisco Bay area ambiance; it is a lot warmer than Seattle. Birds are everywhere. There are sea gulls, pelicans and even a bald eagle hanging out on the docks and boats. We experienced Seattle in great depth and all the San Francisco Bay experiences are ahead of us.
As in all new destinations, nearby people come over to view the beauty of Bella Donna. One visitor lingers and asks to come aboard and see the interior. I usually say no and the boat looking at her worst having just enduring the grinding experience of a passage, seemed to justify a 'no' this time, but I heard the word 'yes' roll off my lips. The fellow said he reported to George Lucas of Star Wars fame. He handles his real estate. I refrained from any in depth discussion due to the current financial crisis involving real estate.
We are all very tired and retire to bed between 8 and 9 PM.
God Bless Bella Donna
